Why SPENGA vs. Orange Theory you ask? This is one of the key comments/questions I received from my latest blog where I shared my SPENGA experience.  Since you asked, I will share my “whys”….

It’s a “3-in-1” Membership.

That’s right.  You can toss out your spin membership, your yoga membership, and your sculpting membership because SPENGA offers all three in a single 60-min workout!  As humans, we try to cram as much as possible into a single day that we rarely have time for ourselves.  So what is better than getting that complete mind, body, spirit experience every single time you work out versus having to take three separate classes?  Oh, and the $$$ I will save.  Sign me up!

Okay, so there will be some that want to challenge that a 20-minute strength session isn’t going to give you the same results as a 45 or 60-min strength session.  I get that.  But according to the experts, bursts of HIIT are more beneficial.  SHAPE outlined 8-benefits of HIIT, one of them being increased metabolism. According to SHAPE, “In addition to increased fat burning and more muscle preserved, HIIT stimulates the production of your human growth hormone (HGH) by up to 450 percent during the 24 hours after you finish your workout. This is great news since HGH is not only responsible for the increased caloric burn but also slows down the aging process, making you younger both inside and out!”  Heck yes, the SPENGA fitness experience is this to a tee.

One Class. One Mission.

You have one instructor with one mission. This is one of the key differences that I noticed about SPENGA vs. my Orange Theory experience… and I LOVED IT!   The instructor is 100% focused on you & the workout you are doing at the time.  They do not have to go between various groups that are alternating between different workouts and trying to keep an eye on each group, their posture, etc.  You begin with 20-min of spin then the class transitions to strength, together, then on to yoga for final relaxation.  During each session, you are 100% immersed in that experience, as a team, as a community.

The sense of community that this group workout provides is unparalleled.  You are not competing against each other, but together to reach your personal best.  Livestrong stated that “Participating in a group exercise class challenges you to work out beyond your perceived limitations. The instructor observes your body for signs of fatigue and pushes you to your limits. You are likely to work out harder, as everyone is exercising toward the same goal than you would on your own. A group fitness instructor explains the benefits of each exercise, which increases your reasons to complete the workout and keeps you returning to class.”

SPENGA’s approach to 1 instructor focused on one segment with the entire class at one time, allows for this level of personalization and inclusion.  Even as a newbie, I felt the “inclusiveness” of the group atmosphere.

An Overall Low Impact Workout.

SPENGAs low impact workout is perfectly designed for most bodies.

Don’t be fooled that low impact does not equal a kick-butt workout.  That’s certainly not the case.  During the spin session, your heart rate is consistently pushing your personal threshold level then transitioning to a quick rest, then working your way back up.  This then continues through the strength session as you complete rounds of strength training intervals. Finally, you get your Namaste on to bring down that heart rate while still continuing to build strength, flexibility and help center your mind into a peaceful state. Whew!

According to Women’s Health & Fitness  “Low impact workouts are great for slowly building strength and endurance at your own pace. Routine and consistency are key for changing the body and mind toward healthy habits – these workouts have little to no recovery requirements, so you can participate practically every day. The higher the frequency, the quicker the results.”

I so appreciate the comments & questions that were sparked by my initial blog on SPENGA and hope that this provides a bit more insight into the SPENGA experience differentiators.
